Roswell's zoning codes have often been criticized, sometimes controversial and typically hard to understand, which is why they're currently being overhauled, say city leaders. According to the city, Code Studio consultants - hired by the city in May - are critiquing the existing zoning code, incorporating the Imagine Roswell 2030 Comprehensive Plan, the Economic Development Strategic Plan and identifying key zoning issues for the city. "We got council’s blessing not to implement, but to explore and prepare a new draft of the new ordinance," said Lee Einsweiler, of Code Studio. Roswell will hold a listening session toward the end of the month to kick off public input and engagement for the Unified Development Code (UDC) project. According to the city, the UDC project will clarify the Roswell zoning ordinance, as well as make the development process simpler, while protecting property owners. During the meeting, a brief presentation will be given on the purpose of the new UDC, the stakeholder committee appointed by Mayor Jere Wood and the Roswell City Council will be introduced, a question and answer session will be held and information on how to stay involved throughout the project will be discussed.
