Fluffy Jade Just Wants a Family

Jade is the Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus' pet of the week.

Jade, Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus' pet of the week, is a beautiful, domestic medium hair mix with bright, green eyes. She has grey tabby stripes and is front declawed. Jade is very sweet and loves to have her soft fur petted. Since her fur is long and fluffy, it will be important for her future family to brush her frequently. At five years old, Jade is ready to find her forever family and is eager to meet you. Although Jade might enjoy being an only cat, she does currently have a kitty roommate who she peacefully co-exists with. She is also a chatty lady and will cheerfully meow and purr when you enter her room. Bring your whole family down to meet this sweet girl and see if you fall in love. She has been vaccinated, micro-…

Sweet Kora Looks for Somebody to Love

Kora is this week's Pet of the Week at the Atlanta Humane Society - Mansell Campus.

Kora is a beautiful Chinese Shar-Pei, Labrador Retriever mix currently residing at the Atlanta Humane Society’s Mansell campus. Currently Kora is our most “senior” resident at ten and a half years old, but you would never know it by taking her out to play. She is loving and fun and enjoys running around and playing with the people who visit her. Kora wants nothing more than to move on from her shelter life to find her forever home. Kora walks nicely on a leash and would make a great walking buddy. She loves people and other dogs but is not as fond of cats and would do best in a home with no small animals. She enjoys a good ear scratch and cuddling up to those she loves. Kora is also quite intelligent quickly learning basic commands …

Ted is a gorgeous brown and black tabby with a white belly and Chance is mostly gray with little white markings on his belly and feet and bright green eyes. These boys have always lived together and need to go to a home as a pair. They are bonded and can often be caught cuddling and napping together. They are also very social and will quickly pop out to play when you enter their room. Both Ted and Chance like to play and be petted. Winter Weather Doesn't Stop Volunteers at North Fulton's Atlanta Humane Society

You can still stop by to adopt a pet, even in freezing rain.

The weather in North Georgia can be unpredictable, even leading to the closing of several local school districts when icy precipitation is feared. But the threat of a winter ice storm doesn't slow down the daily activities at the Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus, or their volunteers. Karla Slocumb, the center's marketing manager, took a moment to share with Patch a bit of how AHS handles winter weather. Patch: How does weather affect your operations? Slocumb: Sometimes we see a decrease in foot traffic, as people might be less likely to get out in the pouring rain or freezing cold. But as far as taking care of the animals, the weather never stops us from making sure they get outside to go potty! P: Does freezing rain keep volunteers …

The pair is available for adoption at the Atlanta Humane Society’s Mansell campus.

URGENT! "Right now the fate and well being of shelter pets hangs in the balance in Fulton County, GA. Two bids were submitted to take over Fulton County Animal Control Services. One is a for profit group called The Siwel Group LC affiliated with Ron Totten, who failed as a director of Fulton County Animal Services with higher than a 80% kill rate and the other is the obvious and only competent …   more ›

Older Mixed Beagle 'Pookie' Hopeful for Home

Visit the Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus to meet Pookie.

Sometimes at the Atlanta Humane Society, we see a dog who is a little older that somehow, through no fault of their own, finds their way to our shelter. Pookie is one of these dogs. Unfortunately after seven years, she has found herself looking for her permanent home. The staff and volunteers at the Atlanta Humane Society would like nothing more than to help her find one. Pookie is a seven year old, female, beagle mix who is the sweetest little dog you will ever meet. She is gentle and friendly, always willing to happily flop down next to you requesting petting and snuggle time. At twenty-seven pounds, Pookie has a little extra weight around the middle so she would love someone committed to taking her for daily walks or light jogs. She …

Shy Dolly Needs a Home

Dolly is this week's Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus Pet of the Week.

This week AHS wants to highlight Dolly a petite, medium-haired cat. She is one and a half years old and is small, weighing only five pounds full grown. She has a soft, white coat with a tail that looks like it has been dipped in grey paint! Dolly is a sweet girl who loves to be petted but is also very shy. Dolly spent some time in foster care and was reported to get along fine with other cats but did get scared by overly excited dogs. She is sweet and gentle but is shy and scared and does like to hide. Dolly would do best in a home that is experienced with cats and willing to understand her shy nature and accept her just the way she is. On her own she will likely hide most of the time. However, if you are willing to scoop her up, she will …

Polite Charlie Would Love to Join You For a Run

Here is this week's Pet of the Week from the Atlanta Humane Society-Mansell Campus.

Come to the Atlanta Humane Society to meet our sweet Charlie, a beautiful, tan hound mix. Charlie is one year and eight months old and at sixty pounds would make a great running buddy. He is a friendly boy who is polite on a leash and good with basic manners. Charlie is very shy initially and will need an owner that understands this and is willing to give him time to warm up and adjust to his new family. He does LOVE other dogs and would make a great second dog. When he sees his dog friends, it helps him come out of his shell and become more confident. He is a very sweet boy and just needs someone willing to provide him with the love and time he needs to build up more confidence. Once he knows you, he will happily sit down for a snuggle. …
