Bank of North Georgia, a division of Synovus Bank, has announced the availability of its prepaid Synovus Connections Card at all Synovus Bank divisions. Synovus Bank developed the card as a payment alternative to a traditional checking account. The Synovus Connections Card works like a check card, but there is no checking account or credit check required. The card is appealing to customers with a specific need for a prepaid card, and as an affordable option for individuals currently paying check cashing fees because they do not have a checking account. Don Howard's role with Synovus Bank has expanded to include a new role as regional CEO of Synovus Bank of Florida. Howard assumes this role for the Georgia-chartered, FDIC-insured bank in addition to his current role as chairman of the local Board of Directors at Bank of North Georgia and Synovus Regional CEO for the Atlanta market, which includes Bank of North Georgia and Bank of Coweta. Recognizing that there are literally thousands of families in desperate need of assistance during the holiday season, Bank of North Georgia is hosting a Holiday Toy Drive through Dec. 16 at all 46 branches in metro Atlanta. The Synovus Mortgage Corporation and its subsidiary, the Bank of North Georgia, recently announced the local winners of the 2011 Jack Parker Scholarship, including Alicia Muzzy from Roswell High School. Muzzy, a Roswell graduate, is the daughter of Lauren Muzzy, communications manager for Bank of North Georgia. She plans on attending the University of Georgia in the fall to study journalism and international business and marketing. The scholarships are awarded to children of Synovus team members and funded through employee donations and internal fundraising activities. This year the program, which is named for Jack B. Parker, Synovus employee of 44 years, totaled $136,000 among 124 students. Students who receive the scholarships are …

Bank of North Georgia's recent "Spread the Love" 4th Annual Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive was a huge success this year, benefitting local children through a partnership with 30 metro-area food banks, including North Fulton Community Charities in Roswell. In total, the banks collected 5,899 jars at 7,997 pounds, which is four tons of peanut butter and jelly; enough to make more than 63,978 sandwiches for children in metro Atlanta. The massive collection was possible thanks to the assistance of several area schools partnering with the bank, including Roswell's Chrysalis Experiential Academy, which collected the most of any school with 800 jars. Four tons of love is being spread by two banks and their branches at food pantries across metro Atlanta in the form of peanut butter and jelly.
