The event, which promotes the farm to table movement, will be presented by Whole Foods Market at the Chattahoochee Nature Center’s Unity Garden on Oct. 14.

"We built the garden just over two years ago on a little-used quarter acre area at CNC. Named the ‘Kaiser Permanente Unity Garden’ for our funders - the garden’s mission is to grow healthy, local produce and herbs and donate them, through our partnership with North Fulton Community Charities, to families that are experiencing difficult times and food insecurity," explained Libby Lintel, Community Garden Coordinator at CNC.   Lintel said the year-round garden has now donated over eight and a half tons of fresh produce in over 30 different vegetables and fruits and 20 different types of fresh herbs. "This is something our parks and recreation department has been wanting to do for a while," said Roswell City Councilman Jerry Orlans, who is the department liaison. The 925-B Riverside Road home at Don White Memorial Park, deeded to the city, was decided upon as the best place for the potential new business. Roswell Bicycles responded to an RFP and was considered the most suitable operator to run it, according to Orlans. If approved, Roswell Bicycles will renovate the house in …

The local river lands in third place among American Rivers top ten most endangered rivers list for 2012.

American Rivers named the Chattahoochee River among America’s Most Endangered Rivers Tuesday, shining a national spotlight on two dam and reservoir proposals that some claim are far too expensive and would harm local waters. “The America’s Most Endangered Rivers report is a call to action to save rivers that are facing a critical tipping point,” said Jenny Hoffner of American Rivers. “We all need healthy rivers for our drinking water, health, economy, and quality of life. We hope citizens will join us to ensure a healthy Chattahoochee River and secure water supply for generations to come.” The Chattahoochee is threatened by the proposed Glades Reservoir - in the headwaters - and Bear Creek Reservoir - downstream of Atlanta. However, …

An involved community can bring progress and prosperity. Roswell Patch hopes to help foster some of that engagement here on the site. As the editor, I often hear people talk about their vision for the future of this community, its schools, economy and more. But I'd like to hear from you. What do you want to see happen? Your responses can help drive local focus and, in some cases, even action. Check back every Monday for new questions so you can share your ideas, suggestions and even your own questions. Then, the following Saturday, we'll publish some of the most interesting responses, pass on your ideas for change to local representatives and often try to follow up with reports on where the community stands on the issues you've brought up…
