Hi Kathy, Can you re-post that link. I couldn't open it. Thanks so much.

Tracey, I'm biased for the protection of children, yes. I'm a lifelong Catholic who recognizes the church's flaws. The offending priests' crimes are completely separate from my holy experience of the church. The issues I raise are being discussed all over the media. I suggest reading, "How next pope must tackle sex abuse" on CNN.com. http://www.cnn.com/2013/02/27/opinion/anderson-next-pope-avoid-abuse/index.html?hpt=op_t1

Thanks for your comment Lizzie. I could trust a priest and church that I've come to know in the same way that I trust close neighbors and friends that I've come to know over time and experience, with children. However many pedophiles have been in the priesthood, one is one too many. And to learn that $80 million was spent on "rehabilitating" them through the 1990s tells me there's been far far more than one. In my mind, there is reason to be discerning in leaving your children with a priest or any man, or individual.

For the sake of argument, Alexander's coma was unique in that his neocortex on his brain was completely shutdown. That's where he might've generated or made up the amazing experiences that you suggest, if it had been working. The fact that it wasn't working makes him all the more credible.

Michael, Thanks so much for your comment. The last thing I wish to do is cause distress or a misconception on any topic, particularly this one. My reporting is based on the information I was given by a therapist that treats children and adults with autism and Asperger's. It's one story and it is not my intention that it be the last one. If you are willing, you and I can talk for another story or maybe you would be interested in writing an ongoing blog in our Local Voices section. In any case, I hope this story was helpful in dispelling, if only slightly, the idea that autism and Asperger's translates into violent behavior. Feel free to contact me at adrianne.murchison@patch.com.
