ReplyResponse to Mayor Wood’s Letter to the Editor
I’m reminded after reading the mayor’s letter, of a surprisingly common issue facing homeowners. It is hard to see at first, showing little if any outward change, but once detected, it readily gives up its bad news.
You or your neighbors may have seen it – it is called Wood rot – that expensive problem that lets off an awful stink, lying just beneath the surface of a problem area.
History proves that King George III would not have been accused of “taxation without representation” without the full support of London’s Parliament, which was the governing body that enacted higher taxation legislation against the colonists and we all know what happened after that.
Roswell’s City Council is continuing to unilaterally tax citizens in one form or another. …. First it was a new water plant, and now with the approval of Mayor Wood’s property tax increase with his proposed new budget. And mind you more taxes planned for the future!
Property owners, it took several taxes before colonists reacted and I am looking forward to the same happening in Roswell in the coming November elections. -

ReplyRoswell bills itself $600,000 for impervious road surfaces.
This is the single largest source of income for the entire Storm Water Fund - nearly 40%.
Plus the various residential tiers total $1.2 million in revenues and have been generated by the city of Roswell by rolling over trash fees ( historic over charges for trash pick up has resulted in the City’s Solid Waste Fund currently has $7 million in excess reserves in that account alone ! ! ).
The City over bills itself $100,000 when it purchases water from its own water plant for its own use at it facilities in West Roswell and open record requests provide evidence that the City overstates water purchases from Fulton Country by another $250,000.
Roswell currently has a grand total of $16 million in unallocated excess reserves in the General Fund & the 3 major Enterprise Funds.
They are projecting additional sales tax revenues in FY 2014 of $5.9 million
And they still want to roll-over another $1.7 million instead of retiring the 2002 bond.
Vampires.

ReplyIn the FY2014 budget workshop there is $500,000.00 in water distribution infrastructure expense for Spring Drive Water Line Replacement (Phase I) and the Atlanta Street Water Main Expansion which is being identified as One-Time Capital. By State law such expenditures must be self-funded within the Water Enterprise Fund .
