City Judge Issue on Roswell Council Agenda

The aftermath of Judge Maurice Hilliard's recent resignation will be discusssed at Monday's meeting.

Roswell has been without a municipal court judge most of this month, and the matter is on Monday's City Council agenda.

Longtime Judge Maurice Hilliard resigned on Aug. 5, citing differences with Roswell solicitor Krista Young, according to the Neighbor. He has indicated he will be running for a council seat this fall.

Two years remain in Hilliard's term. Although the city charter calls for a special election, state law doesn't require it. The council could fill the vacancy via appointment, something Hilliard opposes.

Also on Monday's council agenda (see attached PDF) are the following items:

  • Recognizing Melinda Springman of Elkins Pointe Middle School as Fulton County Principal of the Year (see Roswell Patch coverage);
  • The possible approval of a contract with the Jacobs Group for $405,609 to provide services for the Municipal Court Services Reorganization Plan;
  • Approving an operational review of the Historic Homes (Smith Plantation, Bulloch Hall and Barrington Hall).
