Roswell Monday Meetings Slated for UDC, Major Cycling Event

A special called work session begins at 5; followed by a special called regular meeting at 7.

The Roswell Mayor and Council will hold a special work session Monday devoted to the proposed Unified Development Code

The work session begins at 5 p.m. in Room 220 of City Hall, 38 Hill Street.

Following at 7 p.m. in Council Chambers is a special called regular meeting with one item on the agenda -- approval of funds for the city to host a major international bicycling event and festival in the fall.

More details on both meetings are included in the attached PDF.

The UDC work session comes during the final week of a 60-day public review period that culminates next Monday, Jan. 13, with a First Reading of the proposed new zoning ordinance.

The bicycling event, Atlanta-Roswell Giro d'Italia Gran Fondo Bicycling Ride and Festival, is a new project organized by the Southern Bicycling League. It would include a simulated one-day race of a Grand Tour of Europe stage, several shorter rides, an expo and a gala dinner.

The SBL estimates that between 1,000 and 5,000 riders will be attending the event, tentatively scheduled for Oct. 18-19. A number of details are still to be worked out, include ride routes and other logistics.

While many of the rides will take place in other jurisdictions, organizers say all ride options "will begin and end in Roswell."

The agenda item before the Mayor & Council is approval of $15,000 to $20,000 for city expenses above the $15,000 the SBL has budgeted to pay for city permitting, police and infrastructure services.

The City Council's Community Development and Transportation Committee recommended the item be placed on Monday's agenda.

Any city money would come from the fiscal year 2015 special events budget.
